The Product of a Dream (2001)

My Father's House is the product of a dream planted in the heart of founder Jay Preston.  In the summer of 2001, he began to notice people who were struggling and without much hope in his hometown of Paola, Kansas.  Over the next year and a half, he journaled, prayed and planned the programming of My Father's House.

Funding Sought for Operations (2006)

After exhaustive research, a HUD Grant was determined to be the best fit for funding the transitional housing project.

An application was completed and approved for submission at the state level.  The application went forward and we were granted funding for our transitional housing program.  The program launched in January 2006.

The Launch Team (2003)

Jay was an associate pastor at Spring Hill Church of the Nazarene (now Grace Community Church of the Nazarene) during the planning process.  Senior Pastor Joel Atwell was supportive of the project and the church helped with resources for the launch of the new church and co-existing nonprofit organization. Most notable of the resources were thirty-eight fellow attenders of the church who wanted to be part of the launch team.  Funds were also raised to provide for nearly a years salary for Jay so he could concentrate on the new work.

Jay, his family and the "thirty-eight" left their home church and ventured to Paola in January  2003.  By mid-year 2003 they had the church and the nonprofit incorporated and had an IRS ruling of nonprofit status [501 (c) 3].  A building was sought out and found by mid-year as well.

An agreement was struck with AmeriCare regarding a vacant nursing facility whereby the building was leased for $1 annually until renovation could be completed.  Once the renovation was complete, the building and property were given as a gift to My Father's House Community Services.
