Homeless prevention is a sensible, cost-effective strategy to address homelessness.  If prevention efforts were stepped up and the rate of new homelessness reduced, service providers could put more energy into serving those who are currently homeless.

My Father's House Community Services is home of many local community resources.  We can provide access into the following prevention services provided by the Paola Association for Church Action:

In addition to the efficient use of funds, prevention efforts reduce the disruption to family’s lives and the emotional and relational stress that can accompany a move to homelessness.  Homeless prevention services can include any service that helps people maintain self-sufficiency in permanent housing.  Prevention also provides real benefits in our communities, schools, and places of employment.

Prevention services may include rental or mortgage assistance, utility assistance, mediation programs for landlord-tenant disputes, legal services to prevent eviction, and other such services.  These are services that directly impact the preservation of housing.

Programs providing clothing, transportation, food, child care and supplies for children attending schools are all examples of programs that can help prevent homelessness in a more indirect manner.  If money that would have been spent on these goods and services can be used for housing expenses, the net result is homeless prevention.
